Sexual Assault Awareness
UFCW Family,
April is Sexual Assault awareness month in the United States. Let us celebrate the progress while still holding the line for the safety and freedom of all.
More people are empowered to report their assault than ever before. We have created tools (hand signals), local and national support organizations have become more accessible, schools and community groups are more often than not willing to address when an issue arises. There is progress.
Even with the progress made though there is much still to do. Statistics show that all of us are affected by sexual assault in some way. Whether it is our own survivorship, loved ones, or even the impact on our overall community and how we approach our world; we are all affected. 20% of women in the United States and 30% of women in Canada admit to surviving sexual assault. Those who were empowered and supported to officially report their assault are only a fraction of the 20-30% who admit to sexual assault.
Whether you have 2 minutes or 2 years to dedicate to the cause, there is a place for everyone in the journey towards a safe community for all. Learn the hand signal for someone in need of help pictured in this email, save the resource links, and of course attend and encourage others to take upcoming Women’s Network self defense classes where available.
Believe in your power and help others believe in theirs!
