Breast Cancer Awareness

UFCW Family,

On October 4th, in downtown Indianapolis UFCW Local 700 Women’s Network members joined hundreds of women from across Indiana in a demonstration that benefits ALL women. Passionately and proudly presenting themselves in variations of pink to keep the message of breast health at the forefront of all of our minds.

Studies throughout Canada and the US show that 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer during their life. A shocking statistic yet also, let us remember, that the diagnoses are increasing ALONG WITH the unequivocal victory of survivability increasing due to early detection!   We are fortunate in the UFCW to have healthcare that gives us preventative options. So many in fact that we can hardly fit them all in during a calendar year!  Make October your month to take care of you and those you love.

The actions such as those taken by our sisters at Local 700’s WN and  countless others across the country, we applaud you. While there is much work to still be done in our most vulnerable communities, we have succeeded in taking breast health out of the shadows over the last several decades. This needed progress has NOT been accomplished by the stroke of a man’s pen, it is being diligently achieved by women from all walks of life coming together and demanding change consistently throughout the decades.

We all know someone affected by cancer. It comes in all shapes, sizes and severities. Yet all cancers have one thing in common, they bring out courage, strength and grace in every one of us for the fight.

To the beautiful UFCW women facing the cancer fight right now, we see you! We are here to encourage you and remind you that you are an inspiration to us all.

Let us share the message that while it is absolutely okay to be afraid, we can not let fear define our journey! We are powerful sisters!

                In Solidarity,
